Before applying the SEEM EDIT to enable EDGE, I performed a speedtest via DSLReports (several times to get an average) and realized a ~40 to ~64 Kbit/sec download (I frankly do not remember the upload speed). After applying the SEEM EDIT, following the instructions provided by MotorolaFans, I again ran the same test several times for an average. This time the download was, and currently is, ~98 to ~114 Kbits/sec down and ~25 to 30 Kbits/sec up. I have ran this test from time to time, and it has remained constant with the later test. All these tests where ran utilizing the OperaMini browser, also provided to me by MotorolaFans.
I understand there is also some question as to the reliability of the phone conveying if EDGE is enabled or not via the "E" versus "G" icons appearing on the home screen. What I can tell you is that the icons, at least with my firmware and SEEM EDIT are accurately and correctly displaying the the current status of EDGE. The reason I understand this is that when I travel, I often enter areas where there is coverage via Cingular (AT&T) from areas that are not. The "E" and "G" icons will fluctuate depending on the availability of an EDGE enabled carrier. (I believe this is proprietary with Cingular (AT&T), but I don't know.) As a matter of fact, this will even happen in certain gray areas (where the signal is poor) in my office building or the surrounding area. Also, when you power-up the phone the "G" icon with appear prior to the "E" indicating that the discovery service is working and connecting/connected.
Obviously, I cannot apply my finding to the plethora of different firmware that people are utilizing on the A1200, and that are available via this forum and elsewhere. However, what I can say is that it is working on my phone with the firmware stated above and utilizing the original seem edit instructions provided by MotorolaFans in the HowTo area.
Lastly, I would like to thank absolutely everyone who contributes to this forum for the vast amount of knowledge that is provided free of charge. This is surely the best of the best when it comes to the ideals of sharing information and ideas. Everyone here is simply remarkable!!!
