    Thanks Stephen.

Now I can telnet, but my Windows still can't browsing to my A1200. I already tap smbd and with ps -ax , I see smbd -D -l /dev/null is already running. USBNet is already running too so I can telnet to A1200.

    Somebody can help me ?

    Kingz75,
Good, glad you're telnetting! for samba try this:

    1) open internet exploder and enter in the url
    2) \\192.168.16.2 and hit enter
    3) also try \\192.168.16.2\system

if you get connection refused, tap smb again and try 1,2,3

i can help you on the commandline apps if you PM me

    Best,

    Stephen

    @Stephen

I get IP 172.16.16.6 for my A1200. Why you get another IP ? Which telnetd & smbd you used ?? I used Bragon's . If you used the same program, why we get a different IP ?

I already tried \\172.16.16.6 but I still have a problem.
I want edit smb.conf at /etc/samba , but I don't have editor in telnet mode.

    Any clue ?

Is /etc a read only directory? I managed to overwrite the resolv.conf with nothing, but cannot put anything into the file. It originally contained "nameserver 127.0.0.1" and now it is 0 length. I used the echo command and > to try and change the contents to my own nameserver. (Running H2.06P firmware)

How do you edit these files? If you can't, then how did I delete it?

OK, checked again later and the resolv.conf was back to normal. Guess it was never changed, wonder why it was showing as empty.

On the good side, I've discovered that Inetd + Java Telnet client = Console on phone! Start Inetd, telent to 127.0.0.1 and that's it, no USB connection needed! Its a hack, but a pretty clean one - I just don't know if it is using network time or not, says its connecting, but I have unlimited from Cingular so I'm not worried. The workaround for no editor like VI is to copy the file to the flash card, and use the GUI notepad, then copy back.

New toy to play with, you should have seen the Linux junkies at my office drool...

I can telnet into my A1200, but can I edit any of the files? The files seem to be all protected. If I can't edit, what is the use of telnet?

What I want to do is to edit the browser Opera's default settings. I want to change the default encoding to Chinese and also change the default display size. I download newspapers from web in html format and copy to memory card, I then use Opera to browse the newspaper. It's just a hassle having to change encoding and display size every time. Anyone knows how to do that?

    1) The phone has to be in USB-Net mode. To do this, you can put it in Modem mode, and plug it into your computer. Then open Hyperterminal (Programs > Accessories > Communications), give it any name, Choose your phone in the list for Connect To and click OK, cancel the last box.

Now type "at+mode=13" with out the " and it will tell you something like "Switching to USB net mode"

Your phone is now in USB-Net mode (46p and maybe other newer ones includes the option for this in the USB mode settings)

    2) Inetd is for starting and stopping telnet, smbd is for starting and stopping Samba (File sharing like your network neighborhood). When you click it once it starts, click again it stops. So if you have lost track of where it is try, click and try again.

    3) Port 23 is the telnet port, its closed because either your not in USB-Net mode or inetd is not running.

    4) Your computer will be 172.16.16.5 and the phone is 172.16.16.6 and thats just the way they made it.

    Hope this helps.
I've made it as far as opening hyperterminal and choosing a random anme (not very far at all), but then it asks me to enter a phone number to dial. In the "connect using" pulldown, I have only "CXT AC-Link Modem for Intel", "com3", "com4" and "tcp/ip [winsock]". If i enter a ranodm phone number and then cancel so that i am viewing the terminal window, i cannot type.

I can't get my phone into UBSLAN mode because i can't get past this point. Any ideas?

Don't start inetd before you go into Hyperterminal. Once you started Inetd, it will turn into USBLAN and you lose the motorola modem.

    The steps should be :-

    1) plug in USB
    2) go to hyperterminal and choose motorola modem (assuming you have installed the modem driver already)
    3) type AT+mode=13 to go into USB-Net mode. you will receive message USB-Net mode is on or something.
    4) run Inetd. You can see the phone turns into USBLAN mode, your modem disappear in Device Manager, USB LAN device will appear (assuming of course you have installed proper USB LAN driver)
    5) go to dos prompt and type ipconfig, you should see the IP address of the new USBLAN
    5) run samba and use IE to access phone through \\172.16.16.6\system
