Please note that now instead of the telnet package I use an ssh daemon based on dropbear with public key authentication which is more secure. I made the package available here: http://www.motorolafans.com/index.ph...ewtopic&t=5622
    Phones: a780/a910/a1200/rokre2/rokre6

    1) The phone has to be in USB-Net mode. To do this, you can put it in Modem mode, and plug it into your computer. Then open Hyperterminal (Programs > Accessories > Communications), give it any name, Choose your phone in the list for Connect To and click OK, cancel the last box.

Now type "at+mode=13" with out the " and it will tell you something like "Switching to USB net mode"

Your phone is now in USB-Net mode (46p and maybe other newer ones includes the option for this in the USB mode settings)

    2) Inetd is for starting and stopping telnet, smbd is for starting and stopping Samba (File sharing like your network neighborhood). When you click it once it starts, click again it stops. So if you have lost track of where it is try, click and try again.

    3) Port 23 is the telnet port, its closed because either your not in USB-Net mode or inetd is not running.

    4) Your computer will be 172.16.16.5 and the phone is 172.16.16.6 and thats just the way they made it.

    Hope this helps.
Where do I type in the "at+mode=13" command to switch the USB settings in HyperTerminal?

I installed as directed on this thread and all seems good. BUT

when I press telnet to start the daemon, the phone chimes twice (not once).

Also, where do I get usblan drivers for windows xp?

    Thanks

Ok here's the procedure that i used for telnet on 53p.

    1. Install inetd pkg file v1_1.
    2. Instal usblan drivers
    3. Set Modem Usb connection on a1200
    4. Plug a1200 to computer
    5. Click once on inetd icon.
(If drivers are correctly installed, you dont need to use hyperterminal.
    6. start->run-> cmd
    7. type ipconfig
(Last Local connection should be our needed ip - i get 192.168.16.1)
    8. telnet 192.168.16.2

you can telnet from the phone to the phone!

after installing telnet (see this thread) install this java app, it's not pretty but how cool will you be when you bring up a linux console and type uname -a in front of your friends over beers? buying them a beer will also make you cool, fyi.

    Best,

    oops, pardon the double post:

    here's the java app: http://www.mutelnet.com

send it to your phone, then open filemanager on the phone, locate the file, and tap it

    dangelb get IP = 192.168.16.6
    ilear get IP = 192.168.16.2
    valkur said IP = 172.16.16.6

    Why everyone get a different IP for their A1200 ? I installed Inetd and when I run inetd.lin , I hear "dingdong" but I can't telnet my A1200. I don't know IP my A1200, because I can't telnet with 3 IP above.

Somebody can help me ? How I can trace my problem ?

    Kingz75,
You need to restart after installing inetd with mpkg. Afterwords, set your phone in the correct USB mode, usbnet. Unglug your phone from the cable, restart it, then sit the inet icon once. Next, connect the phone and from a DOS shell, type ipconfig and you should get an IP. if you don't have and an ip, start over, if you do, connect to your ip but add one to the end (ie. if's it's x.x.x.1 then telnet to x.x.x.2) use putty.exe to telnet and choose the correct port.

    best,

    Stephen
