[APP] MSN - english and english hax0r versions

ok, i wanted to have a proper MSN client (although MSN sucks, but hey, if your friends are all lamers, you aren't left with much choice) and didn't want to keep guessing what i was clicking in chinese. so i went about to translate the msn.mpkg (msn 1.2) that is available

not all might be working, so if there are any problems or mistranslations let me know (no stupid questions please). i still can't log on with it on my phone, but i am using a gmail.com username, which could be the reason.

below is the plain version, only has most (not all) of the text translated. when i try to log on with the gmail.com username, it hangs after a while and i need to reboot the phone to get it working again. the official one did the same.

and here is the special hax0r version. the only difference is that the dispatch server (messenger.hotmail.com) and port has been changed. with this version it no longer crashed (or got stuck) on my phone when logging on with a gmail.com username, but.... it still didn't work. it gives back a message about not being able to log on. which is an improvement over the other version. i don't know much about MSN and all, so maybe someone with more knowledge who knows where the problem lies when you can't connect if you are not using a hotmail.com account can fix this, then i'd be able to actually use it. why not use one of the other IM clients? because those are java based and when running won't allow you to run any other java apps anymore. anyways, here is the link and the file (don't forget to change the extension to .mpkg).

p.s.: perhaps the upload rules should be changed to allow .tgz, mpkg extensions?

I tried both of these files with a hotmail account and didnt have any luck with either. The only errors I get are "Check your Internet connection" and "MSN service is not available here". I can use QuickIM etc just fine so I know its ok. I also tried going into the settings and connecting the gprs connection first then using messenger but still the same problem.

did you got it working with the original chinese version? the english translated one is exactly the same, but with different text. this one is the one you got the 'MSN service not available' message right? coz it uses a chinese msn server which might be locked to only allow connections from certain providers.

as for the hax0r version i used the normal messenger.hotmail.com server which is used by normal clients, but maybe it needs a special server geared towards mobile clients.

anyways, if someone who already has the chinese version working could try it and see if it works, then we'd know if the ones here actually work or not. and if they don't i'd better just remove them.

Couldnt we just see what one of the other programs like QuickIM connects to and set the server to that?

I never had the chinese one working either, as far as the messages I would get "Check your Internet connection" and if I hit reconnect I would get "MSN service is not available here"

quickim probably emulates a normal desktop client and connects to messenger.hotmail.com, which is the server i set the hax0r version to.

but after translation some of the error responses, i cam across stuff that suggests this version of MSN has some extra capabilities that can be used by the phone provider to lock down usage which is not present in the desktop client version. and maybe it needs a different kind of server to talk to.

but that's just guessing, i have no knowledge about this stuff at all.

What is the server that its trying to connect to by default?

with a download for the 1.0.7 version of MSN (java app though) which works fine for me.

Can we find out which server this is connecting to and put it in your mpkg?

btw, to switch it to english do the following:

Click the bottom left (menu)
Click the 5th option (Language)
Choose the first option for English.
