Hello, Im new here.I was having troubles trying to change some chinese apps names to english names. When running Soft Rename.pkg, I just got some unrecognzible fonts (squares) instead of a recognzible name of app.
Another way to change apps' names is modyfing the "CardRegistry" file which is located at the SD card/.system/java. Remember, the file is "CardRegistry" ¡¡Don't touch ".RegistryFileCard.dat"!!
You can open that file with any Hex editor, for exaple I used the PSPad editor, here is an example of thge contents of "CardRegistry" file:
[66666666-6666-6666-6666-666666666666]
AniIcon =
AppID = {66666666-6666-6666-6666-666666666666}
Args =
Attribute = 2
BigIcon = SmartAsst.png
Daemon = 0
Directory = /mmc/mmca1/.system/QTDownLoad/SmartAsst
Exec = SmartAsst.lin
FixedAllPosition = 0
FixedPosition = 0
GroupID = ezx
Icon = SmartAsst_sm.png
LockEnabled = 1
MassStorageStatus = 0
Name = Smart (here you can write the desired name)
Type = 2
UserID = ezx
In the NAME field you put the desired name in the application, in this case I wrote Smart cecause the old name was chinese and the soft rename pkg didn'show it correctly.
You can also change other names at this file at the same time.When all changes are complete you save it, ¡¡the file aint gotta have any extension!! Then restart the phone.
Also It's very useful when you try to erase an app which doesn't have the option to uninstall, you just erase the folder of an pkg app and after that erase all the content that makes reference to the deleted app.
Note: For major security first make and backup of this file before any changes
