so is this kind of just like an emulator for OPIE? sort of like running the windows emulator within linux?

in effect i have two operating systems running at the same time (Moto Linux and OPIE) and on top of that, apps running within OPIE. Sounds like a battery / processing drain on my sexy little phone.

Well. I'm new to this Opie. But I wouldn't consider it Emulated. If its compiled natively for our phone, it should just another layer on top. It may be using additional resources when executed, but nothing like an emulator would.

Is there a build instruction on getting this going?

In response to the questions of "so, it runs on top of EZX?" The answer is: it has to. It's like running x-windows "on top of" a desktop linux distribution. That's how it's supposed to work. Most modern distros will automatically start x-windows, but it still has to run on top. The point being, OPIE is not a full replacement for EZX. It's only supposed to be something that runs on top. That being said, I'm wondering if there's a way to get OPIE to automatically start when you turn on your Ming?

    From the OPIE FAQ:
How do I install Opie onto my device?

Opie is just a graphical environment and a set of applications rather than a complete operating system, so you don't really install Opie, you install a distribution that includes Opie. The installation process will be different depending on the device model and distribution.
At the moment most of the Linux distributions that include Opie have not been updated (or are no longer maintained) and so getting the latest version of Opie on your device is currently a matter of building it yourself. Needless to say this is not a situation that the Opie team is particularly happy with.
Work is currently underway to get official up-to-date Opie support into OpenEmbedded and The Ångström - see here for details. It is currently possible to build an image that includes Opie for many of the machines that Ångström supports.
